LL97
Local Law 97 (LL97) is a landmark piece of legislation in New York City that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from buildings -- the city’s largest source of carbon emissions. Passed in 2019 as part of the Climate Mobilization Act, LL97 sets stringent limits on carbon emissions for buildings over 25,000 square feet. The law is a long term timeframe, and is designed to help the city achieve its goal of reducing overall GHG emissions by 80% by 2050 compared to 2005 levels.
The carbon reduction goals of LL97 are ambitious, and will be a dramatic step in improving the health and environment of all New Yorkers. Older properties with less insulation will obviously see a bigger challenge than newer buildings with modern systems.
