SUNY Purchase Academic Building Restrooms
Modernizing Campus Restrooms for Accessibility
RRA is currently providing design and construction administration services for two projects at SUNY Purchase, one as prime and one as a subconsultant. A key focus of these projects is improving accessibility through the modernization of 12 existing men’s and women’s restrooms and the addition of new single-user restrooms in the Social Science, Natural Science, and Visual Arts Buildings. The renovations will ensure compliance with ADA standards and improve usability for individuals with disabilities.
Accessibility upgrades include new toilet fixtures, lavatories, partitions, and enhanced lighting, along with improved circulation and clearances to accommodate mobility devices. Finishes, signage, and controls will also be updated to meet universal design principles. Future phases will extend similar accessibility improvements to restrooms in eight additional academic buildings across the campus.
Each restroom will follow campus standards for fixtures, while material selections and finishes will align within each building, maintaining visual consistency while addressing accessibility needs.
