Lexington Avenue Armory, Signage Program
Modernizing a New York National Guard Readiness Center
This project provides comprehensive design, specifications, field survey, estimating, and construction administration/support services to fully rehabilitate and modernize all spaces within the Readiness Center. The redesign optimizes the Armory’s square footage to enhance circulation efficiency, create new functional spaces, and meet the evolving operational needs of the National Guard.
A key focus of the modernization effort is improving accessibility and ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The project includes the integration of universal design principles to create an inclusive environment that accommodates personnel of all abilities. Upgrades feature fully ADA-compliant circulation paths, accessible restrooms and locker facilities, improved wayfinding, and barrier-free entry points to enhance ease of movement throughout the facility.
As part of the accessibility initiative, RRA collaborated with Marvel Design to develop a comprehensive ADA-compliant signage program. This program ensures that all signage adheres to best practices for visibility, tactile readability, and wayfinding, providing clear and accessible navigation throughout the facility for all users, including those with visual impairments.
Through these targeted accessibility enhancements, the modernization effort not only meets compliance standards but fosters an inclusive and equitable environment that supports the mission readiness of all National Guard personnel.
